Break Through Your Plateaus
Do you feel like you've hit a wall with your progress?
So many people do all the right things but still aren't seeing the results they want
In this post I will go over the most common mistakes why people hit plateaus and how to break through them to crush your fitness goals!
#1. Inconsistency
This feels like something that gets written in every post, but only going to the gym when you want to is never going to produce results. It takes a long time and you must stay consistent to move the needle forward.
#2. Following the same routine for too long
Our bodies are very smart machines. If you perform the same workout, in the same order, using the same weight and volume eventually your body adapts and gets used to the stimulus you put on it. When this happens growth and progress stop. An easy tip to work through this is to switch up your routine every month or so, or reverse your workout. Start from the end and work your way forward. This will throw your body off and allow you to pass your plateau.
#3. Not pushing yourself hard enough
Going to the gym will be uncomfortable. The process doesn't get easier, you become stronger mentally and physically. You can deal with the temporary discomfort you feel during your workouts or the long term pain of dealing with injuries, being overweight, or suffering from diseases like diabetes or hypertension. It's your choice.
#4. Using the same weight and following the same set x rep format
Similar to the previous example, if you do the same things over and over eventually it wont work like it did in the beginning. One of my favorite strategies to work around this is to "run the rack". Start off using your normal weight then go 5lbs lighter until you can't anymore. Keep dropping the weight and push through as many reps possible until you get down to the lightest weight on the rack. This will be sure to give you a pump and push through your current limits.
#5. Diet
This speaks for itself. If you are not eating within your macro window or your food choices are not healthy you can't expect to see results. Just like seeing results in the gym, seeing results in the kitchen takes time. I recommend avoid "dirty bulking" which is just an excuse to justify eating poorly to gain mass. You can still get bigger and stronger by eating a quality diet and it prevents you from forming bad habits a dirty bulk would like eating tons of junk food.
#6. Lack of sleep
If you are sleep deprived your body is not capable of performing at it's best. If you are tired every workout and half-assing everything it is only going to take longer to reach your goals. Sleep is super underrated but makes a big difference in the results you see and how you feel.
If you hit a plateau in the gym I hope one or many of these strategies helps you overcome it so you get back to making progress and crushing your goals.
