Have Pain? Get Moving!

Have Pain? Get Moving!

If you've ever experienced pain or an injury and gone to see a doctor, how many of you have been told to "stop working out" or "take some time away from the weights" or "rest and let your pain go away first"

In theory all these statements make sense

In this post I'm going to explain why if you have pain, resting is the last thing you should do and moving/exercising is the best thing you should do

If you have a skeletal muscle injury, chances are it came from a movement fault, or a muscle imbalance and chances are you have been doing it for a long time and are unaware (lifting or moving with improper form, or neglecting certain muscle groups)

For example, if you tweak your low back during squats, chances are you lack core stability and that is why you got injured because your core is unable to hold your spine in place

Taking time off to let your back heal makes sense, but you can take off as long as you want and your core stability will never improve

This is why no matter how much time you take off, once you return to the gym your pain is likely to come back sooner or later, because you never addressed the root cause of the issue

Now if instead of taking your doctor's advice to do nothing until it gets better, if you focus on increasing your core stability, you can get back to lifting pain free again in no time

This same exact concept can be applied to any soft tissue injury...

Unless it was an acute injury like getting a concussion from a headbut, or being in a car accident... These are acceptable reasons to take some time off and gradually return to your workout routine

To be 100% clear, I am no doctor and I do not pretend to be one, but sometimes the advice they give out is the complete opposite of the truth!

Taking pain pills or getting cortisone shots are band-aids that mask your pain, not the solution to your problem

This is like putting duct tape over a hole in your car tire. It is a short term fix, but will not leave you with the long term results you're in need of

It is not easy at all to identify what the cause and reason is for your pain, especially if you don't study the human body, anatomy, or correct movement patterns...
