How Exercise Has Changed My Life
When I first started going to the gym I had no idea how much it would truly change my life. After over five years of consistent training I have noticed substantial changes in many different areas of my life. I am going to share how exercising has impacted my life and how it can for you too!
The first benefit I noticed was going to the gym is something fun to do in my opinion. I looked forward to my workouts and still do everyday. This made staying consistent easy for me, and is why it is so important to find a program you enjoy.
Another thing I noticed was mind fog going away, and having much more energy throughout the day. I am much more mindful, present, and aware after I exercise and the days I don't workout are the days I feel the most tired.
One of the reasons I love weightlifting is because you get to notice yourself making progress and the goals you aim for are completely personal! This provides me with a feeling of hunger to become better and stronger than I was yesterday. For some, it may be to lose weight, to gain muscle, or to perform better at a sport.
The most important thing I benefit from exercising is my mental health. Working multiple jobs while being a full time college student became very stressful at times. I experience lots of depression and anxiety which exercise dramatically improves. This is honestly the reason I love seeing people exercise is because these conditions are terrible to deal with and they can be very common. Also many people do not realize exercise can help with these aspects, when in reality they have a major impact.
Working out over the years has helped me develop bulletproof confidence. I used to be very insecure and lacked self-confidence. Confidence is not something you have, it is something you earn by being productive and executing day in and day out. Recently I went through a program called 75HARD. 75 days straight of a clean diet, drinking a gallon of water, reading 10 pages from a personal development book, taking a progress picture, and working out two times everyday where one workout has to be outside. If you lack confidence I promise you this program can help with that and so many other things in your life!
I have also developed the most discipline ever in my life. Going to the gym everyday regardless if I am too tired, too sore, too busy, or anything else helped me build this discipline, along with completing 75HARD. Having the discipline to complete tasks when you don't want to will set you apart greatly from your peers.
One of the best parts of going to the gym for so many years are the friends you meet during your journey. I've meet some of my best friends through exercising and going to the gym which I am still close with to this day. More importantly, it shows you who your fake friends are. It is important to know this is out of envy and when people laugh or criticize you, especially when you first start exercising, they are jealous that you're willing to try something they aren't. Stay focused, stay consistent, and keep pushing. Don't let these people hold you back.
Recently reflecting on my whole experience of exercising, one amazing feeling I am provided with is being an inspiration to so many people around me. Even for those who dislike the gym, or have different interests than you do. When you stay consistent for something so long, people notice and become inspired. This then creates a ripple effect for others who notice and they either begin mocking you, or begin focusing on something in their own life with that same intensity. Both of these are compliments to your character. You bring out greatness in those around you who are inspired by your work ethic.
One final factor in my life that has been impacted hugely from exercise and the gym is my career. Exercise and having a healthy lifestyle provided so many benefits in my life that I wanted others to be able to experience. Becoming a personal trainer was so meaningful for me because I was literally changing people's lives. Continuing this passion, I am currently pursuing a career in Physical Therapy to continue leaving an impact and make a difference.
