How To Get & Sustain A Good Physique
It is one thing to get in good shape, but it is another thing to sustain that hard work you put in to maintain that physique for a long period of time
When you set a goal to reach a certain weight on the scale, look a certain way, fit into a specific size clothing, or lift a certain amount of weight...
when you achieve the goal you set do you then stop?
Absolutely not
You keep raising the bar and set new goals to continue improving
In this post I'm going to share the top tips and traits I've discovered from my own personal fitness experience as well as others who have been doing the things I do for a much longer amount of time...
It boils down to very simple requirements that need to be followed
Although they are simple in words, they are very challenging to execute on consistently
Discipline
If we want to get in good shape, or maintain a good physique you will have make many sacrifices
You will need to eat foods you won't always want eat to and train on days you don't feel like it
Discipline is doing what is required whether you are wanting to do it or not. If you're feeling tired on a day you are supposed to train, you need to train and not cave in to skipping your workout
If you meal prepped or have an idea of what you need to eat to fit in your macros, you need to avoid any cravings you get and eat what you planned on no matter what your mind tells you
The number one reason people do not ever reach their fitness goals is because they listen to their emotions too much instead of doing what's required
Habits
"We are what we do, not what we say"
Telling yourself you will get in shape or start working out for your new year's resolution does not change where you are today
Saying you will start eating healthier next Monday and splurge over the weekend is setting you back further from your goals
Getting in shape comes down to the daily habits we act on over a very long period of time. Not a few days, weeks, or months, but consistently acting on these requirements for several years on end is where real results will start to show
At a young age some kids might have a naturally good physique. As you get older you will realize nobody who is incredibly strong or in very good shape is lucky or has good genetics. They have been consistently doing what is required for many years and never gave up
Again those are very simple; eat clean, train hard, and stay consistent
Most people can do the first two for a few days, weeks or months, but if they don't see progress as fast as they'd like to they quit
Most times those people are doing everything right, they just need to stick with it longer!
Imagine you are trying to grow a tree. If you plant a seed and water it for a few weeks and don't see anything grow are you going to stop?
No, because eventually you know with the requirements the tree needs to grow, and enough time something will produce...
This is a concept I use in fitness all the time because the main thing people fail to realize is they give up before they water the tree long enough for it to grow
How does this connect to fitness?
Most of the time people do the right things; they train and eat healthy, but they do not do it long enough to produce or sustain results
Lifestyle
Little things we do every single day make very big impacts on our lives
Going for daily walks might not seem like a lot...
But if you walk 1 mile a day, you walk 30 miles a month, and 180 miles in 6 months... and so on...
As you can tell 1 mile a day does not seem like much, but all those miles compound over time...
This is exactly how working out and eating healthy work. You might not think eating off track for one meal will make a difference, or skipping a workout every now and then won't have an impact
But again over the years all of these decisions will come back to work against you
Eating junk food one night doesn't seem like a big deal...
But if you tell yourself every week eating junk food isn't a big deal it will pull you very far away from your goals in the long run
Here you have the blueprint for my top 3 most important traits to act on a daily basis to help reach and maintain your goals
Discipline: Lift weights, go for walks, stick to your diet, drink more water, especially on days you don't feel like it
Habits: Do these things every single day for a very long time
Lifestyle: Live by these rules, don't do them and stop when you hit your original goal
If you are looking for a guaranteed way to build these skills and integrate them into your life I would highly recommend 75HARD
It completely changed my life, and I know many other people it has done the same for!
Some days will be harder than others... But keep the big picture and long term goals in mind and with discipline, good habits, and good lifestyle choices it is possible for anyone to achieve and sustain their dream physique!
