The Mindset You Need For Success
This is finally the year...
You are going to get in shape this time
You are going to go to the gym every day
You are going to eat healthy
You are going to lose the body fat and build muscle
Or at least that's what plenty of people say every other year
But what is actually different this time than every other time you've said it?
Instead of trying to run away from your current situation, focus on moving towards a better version of yourself. Make it a positive change instead of a negative change
Don't say "I need to lose weight I look so fat"
Instead say "I want to be in good shape and be healthy"
Don't say "Nobody would want to be with me I am so out of shape"
Instead say "I want to be in shape so I can find a more attractive partner"
When you switch the focus from being negative about your current situation to having a positive outlook on the future it will allow you to have a much better mindset
How to finally reach your dream physique
#1. Discipline
No matter who you are you will not reach a good physique or sustain it long term if you lack discipline. Life will get hard, there will be plenty of times you want to quit, get frustrated, stressed, or lose faith. Discipline is what will keep you going still while having all those other doubts.
#2. Consistency
You do not get to pick and choose when you will workout and when you want to eat clean and expect to get perfect results. Fitness is a game of math. If you workout 2 days out of the week 2 / 7 = 28%
Just to give you perspective:
3 / 7 = 42%
4 / 7 = 57%
5 / 7 = 71%
6 / 7 = 85%
If you want to get A+ results you cannot work with a F- work ethic and expect to get there. I always tell clients if you are serious about getting any kind of noticeable result you should start at a minimum of 3x per week and build up from there
#3. Persistence over perfection
However long you think it is going to take you to reach your goals...
Add 6 months to a year onto that timeline.
For starters many people have unrealistic expectations on how long it will actually take to lose body fat and replace it with muscle.
On average a sustainable weight loss routine can have you dropping 0.5lbs - 1lb per week. If you want to lose 30lbs this would take you between 30 - 60 weeks... And it is assuming you are doing everything perfectly with training and dieting.
#4. Stop being afraid of the weights
Lifting weights will not make you bulky unless you structure your workouts and diet to make that your goal. There are tons of people who go on strict diets and go through intense workouts in attempt to gain size but struggle.
What makes you think it is going to be easy and you will automatically get huge if you've never even worked out before?
People who say this don't realize how insulting it is. People try so hard and struggle and you make it seem like as soon as you start you will get these insane results.
This is equivalent of saying something like I don't want to read this book because I will become too smart. Doesn't make sense and is very selfish and insulting to other people who are working hard.
The truth is lifting weights will help you lose body fat and pack on lean muscle tissue. This does not mean you will look like a bodybuilder. Remember 1lb of muscle is significantly smaller in size than 1lb of fat.
#5. Don't get frustrated from not seeing results
Just because the scale isn't moving does not mean you aren't making progress or changes aren't being made. If you are strength training (which you should be) you are dropping body fat while building muscle.
As bad as you want to see a lower number on that scale, if you drop 1lb of body fat and add 1lb of muscle, you will see no change on the scale but that can make a big difference in how you feel and your appearance.
What are you going to do if you don't see results as fast as you'd like? Quit? That certainly wont get you anywhere... KEEP GOING!
#6. Change your perspective
Whether you realize it or not there is ALWAYS someone who looks up to you or is inspired by you.
It might be your spouse, your kids, a coworker or a complete stranger. Someone admires you for who you are, your work ethic, your consistency, and the progress you make.
If you feel unmotivated or want to quit remember that. You won't just be letting yourself down.
