Pain Is Not Permanent
Pain is your brain's way of telling you something is wrong
Similar to a check engine light turning on in your car, your brain scans and signals for problems
Few types of chronic pain should be long term
Most people deal with pain for so long because they would rather tolerate pain than put in the work and effort it takes to eliminate it
The part they don't realize is the longer you wait to address your problems, the worse they get
The longer you tolerate pain without trying to get rid of it, the longer it will take once you finally start. Don't sabotage yourself
Top 3 reasons why people experience pain (And how to fix them)
1. Moving with improper technique
Our bodies are engineered to move in specific ways
This is the easiest problem to fix because your pain can sometimes go away immediately once you identify and correct your movement patterns
2. Weakness and instability
When muscles become weak we experience compensation. This is where if a muscle cannot do the job it's supposed to, other muscles that aren't supposed to will try and help
Certain muscles need to be strong, and some need to be stable
Stability muscle groups like glute medius, rotator cuff, and core are more responsible for holding your joints in place, rather than creating joint movement
Pain is the number one symptom If you lack stability or have weakness
This is why strength training is TOP TIER
3. Mobility restrictions
Tightness can be another symptom that creates pain. This is less common because most people move so little they have weakness that disguises itself as tightness
If you do have true mobility restrictions finding the right drill and stretches can be the piece you've been missing
But be careful. Stretching weak muscles can give a temporary feeling of relief, but in the long run can make things worse.
When muscles are weak, they become lengthened/stretched. Imagine if you stretch out a rubber band. It will feel tight, but if you keep stretching it eventually it will break
Stretching a tight muscle may not literally cause it to break like a rubber band, but it can make your symptoms worse
A good rehab program utilizes a combination of always using proper technique, building strength + stability, and an appropriate mobility routine
