Strength Training Is King
Whether you want to lose fat, build mass, increase strength, become lean, or gain weight strength training is the best option for any of those goals. Dream physiques are made up of all of those, but the mental benefits from weight training are incredible as well
Your goal does not have to be to join a bodybuilding or powerlifting competition. But most goals people want to reach can and should be through resistance training
Weight loss/ fat loss- resistance training requires lots of energy and uses lots of different muscle groups. The more muscle groups you train, the more energy you will be exerting during your workouts, and the more energy your body will need for recovery.
The more muscle you build the easier it becomes to lose fat. Building muscle requires energy from our body and the more muscle you build the more energy is required from your body which results in losing fat during the process.
Increase strength- Our bodies get used to the stimulus we put on it after some time. The more you increase the weight you lift the more motor units from your muscle fibers will be recruited which will lead to muscles growing bigger and developing stronger contractions. Resistance training is the only and best way to increase your strength in the gym and day to day life.
Become lean- Diet plays a big role in all of these components, but when I hear someone wants to become lean I assume they mean a combination of losing fat and gaining muscle. There is very small room for error in your nutrition in order to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. It is very difficult but still doable if you work hard and stay consistent. If you don't like counting calories and macros I would recommend eating clean, quality foods with a proportion that fill you up and no more.
Gain weight- If you are someone who is skinny wanting to gain weight resistance training will help your body pack on lots of lean muscle tissue to help you get bigger. Compared to cardio and endurance training depending on the time and intensity of the training can actually utilize your muscles for energy. This is why marathon runners tend to have less muscle than professional athletes.
This is not to say that you should not do any cardio or orther styles of training. If any of these topics are goals you are trying to reach weight training will be the best option to get you there.
