Common Training Splits & Their Benefits
There are many different types of training splits and each offer different benefits and align with different types of goals you are aiming to achieve...
Whether you are just starting off and not sure which routine to begin with, or an advanced lifter looking to switch up your current routine, this post is for you!
In this post I will go over some of the most common splits I hear people utilize and highlight their benefits... Hopefully this will give you a better idea of all their differences and select which one aligns with your personal goals the best
PPL (Push, pull, legs)- This split is ideal for bodybuilders and for people who are just starting their lifting journey. You can take one day rest in between each workout and train 3x per week hitting each muscle group 1x per week.
Advanced lifters can rotate through this split 2x per week for a total of 6 days of lifting and one day of recovery.
Full Body- This split is good for people who only workout 2-3x per week. Allows to train the full body during each workout and still allow time for recovery. Often requires higher intensity to make up for the lack of volume per muscle group during each workout. Usually this consists of 1-2 exercises per muscle group.
Upper Lower- This split is good for bodybuilding and powerlifting. It allows more emphasis on the main lifts (squat, bench, deadlift) and other compounds such as vertical and horizontal pressing and pulling movements like rows and military presses.
HIIT- This split is Ideal for people who are trying to lose weight as their main goal. High intensity interval training is exactly how it sounds. It is short duration high intensity movements, followed by a lower intensity immediately after, and you continue to rotate between the two. These workouts tend to be shorter than most resistance training workouts, so they are good for people short on time.
