Why The Scale Can Be Misleading

Why The Scale Can Be Misleading

There is nothing inherently wrong with weighing yourself...

It can be a good way to measure your progress...

But where many people go wrong and become frustrated is when the scale is the only indicator they are using to measure progress..

That along with weighing yourself everyday...

It is totally normal for your body weight to fluctuate up and down across the span of a bulk or cut. It's never going to be a linear line straight up or down...

That's the reality of the human body...

You should not weigh yourself everyday if you become frustrated by not seeing the number you want immediately...

Instead you should weigh yourself only about once a week or even once a month for long term accurate results...

Another thing some people experience is their weight staying the same and not changing the way they would like it to...

It is very hard to get to this point, but it may be an indicator that your body is burning fat and building lean muscle mass at the same time...

This is very hard to do because there is a very small window for error in your diet... You need to consume enough food for your muscles to grow, and little enough to be in a caloric deficit as well to lose fat...

This is the point everyone wants to be at but as mentioned above it is very difficult...

Other ways to measure progress

The way your clothes fit

How you feel (mentally, physically, and energy levels)

The quality of sleep you get

Decrease in anxiety or depression

Circumference measurements (tape measure)

Visually (looking in the mirror)

The scale is no doubt a great tool to measure your progress...

My biggest piece of advice is to not weigh yourself every day, and to expect the numbers to fluctuate slightly...

Don't go by the number you see every time you step on the scale, go by the trends you see over time... If every month or few months your numbers are going up or down consistently, but on a daily basis you weigh in differently, that is normal!
